Time at the bar: The Hopbine closing Wed 20th February

Posted on 6th February, 2019

It is with a heavy heart we must announce that The Hopbine will be closing on Wednesday the 20th February.

After prolonged negotiations with the landlady we have been unable to reach an agreement that would give us a longer, secure lease and let us invest in the business to develop its long-term future.

We are very proud of what we have achieved over the last 7 ½ years, even with the difficulties and restrictions placed upon us during that time, we would like to thank all the staff for their hard work, dedication and understanding. Many of them will be taking positions in one of our sister pubs The Portland Arms and The Alexandra Arms.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to all of our customers. The clubs, groups and regulars that have supported us and made The Hopbine a vibrant community hub.

We are looking at other projects and opportunities that we hope to announce in the coming months, so watch this space.

Thanks, and goodbye.

A sad time..........great little pub and the food and service was always very good.

I bet the owners are not Cambridge people................no doubt just being very greedy who obviously don't give a toss about the local community.

I will miss your amazing prawns and steak & cheesy chips! Where will we have our birthday work lunches now?
Well that sucks...I’m no regular in there but on the occasion I’m over that way I always enjoy a couple in your pub...always see groups playing games and plenty of custom...how very very sad. And how very mercenary of the owners..
So sad to see my favourite pub shutting down. Nowhere else in Cambridge can guarantee table space for enjoying a board game and whoever was getting those import stouts in the fridge really knew their beers. You'll be missed; thanks for having us and good luck to the team.
We are so sad to read this - we love our sizzling steak suppers and the warm and friendly staff - we will miss you!
Very sad news !!
The Hopbine was the Sunday lunchtime home of our football club Selser FC, when it was a one room bar run by mine hosts Albert and Dora. Many a pleasant Sunday afternoon was spent in here following a freezing cold morning chasing a ball around on Coldhams Common. Albert was always happy pulling the pints in the knowledge that the lads would be there for the duration, or at least until 2.30pm.....there were no extended licensing hours then !! And Dora was kept busy replenishing the one jiffy sandwich machine, each week a different filling added to the menu. Happy memories !!

Having just rediscovered the extended Hopbine, its friendly staff and excellent food it is very disappointing that we will be losing yet another good Cambridge pub..... there are few left !!

V sorry. Thank you for your hospitality on Monday evenings.
What!?
Nooo! Hopbine was my favourite pub, I'm really going to miss it.
